Annual Silent Art Auction
Friday, November 20, 6:00pm–9:00pm
The Center for Fine Arts Downtown Studio
While we do receive a small portion of financial support from the Graduate and Professional Student Government student activity fees, for the larger part of our budget we are responsible for doing our own fundraising. The Annual Silent Auction is our primary fundraiser. Through the generosity of students like you as well as faculty and alumni who donate art and their time, this lively event enables us to provide valuable opportunities for the AAH graduate student body. The GAA Silent Art Auction is a one night annual event. All artwork is donated by students, faculty and alumni of the UNM Art and Art History department. Proceeds benefit GAA, which provides exhibition and publication opportunities and grants AAH graduate students. This year, students who donate art will received a 20% commission from any sales of their artwork.
What Is There That We Cannot See?: the 22nd Annual Juried Graduate Exhibition
University of New Mexico Art Museum
January 29-May 14, 2016
Opening Reception: Friday, January 29, 2016, 6:00pm–8:00pm
The Annual Juried Graduate Exhibit is a showcase of graduate student works selected each year by a special guest juror. This year’s juror, Courtney Fink, visited studios in November to choose the works for What is There That We Cannot See? Her curatorial process considered the common themes, questions, and significance expressed by the art practices of UNM’s graduate students. In addition, the Graduate Art Association has collaborated with graduate students in Art History to produce a custom-designed, printed catalog, available at the exhibit. This event is free and open to the public.
Participating artists will present their work in short talks for the UNM Art Museum’s Meeting of the Minds lecture series, from 12:00-1:00pm on February 18, March 31, and April 21. The artist talks will take place in the museum’s upper gallery. The schedule is as follows:
- February 18: Sallie Scheufler, Kristen Roles, Amy Johnson, Marcie Brewer, Fatemeh Baigmoradi, and Ray Ewing
- March 31: Nick Simko, Katelyn Bladel, Stefan Batista, Eugene Ellenberg, Julianne Rose Aguilar, and Erin Fussell
- April 21: Abbey Hepner, Fiona Yang, Ariel Wilson, Kaitlin Bryson, Adrian Pijoan and Brittany Sundheim
Courtney Fink is co-founder and co-director of Common Field, a new visual arts organizing network that connects contemporary, experimental, noncommercial artist organizations and organizers across the US and beyond. From 2002-2015 she was the Executive Director of Southern Exposure, a 41-year-old non-profit organization in San Francisco that supports visual artists.
